Component

Description

B-09341

All

UCERT

Change the default value for UCERT's SIGNATURE_ALGORITHM

Changes the default signature algorithm used by the Universal Certificate utility from SHA1 to SHA256.

B-20752

Unix (Debian)

All

Migrate the Debian build platform to Ubuntu 22.04 LTS.

This effectively updates the minimum supported version for the Universal Agent 8.1.0.0 release to Ubuntu 22.04 LTS which runs Linux kernel 5.15.

info

This change required a change to the Debian distribution file name to include the updated kernel. For example, the UA 8.0.0.0 Debian distribution file was sb-8.0.0.0-linux-4-x86_64-deb.tar.gz. The UA 8.1.0.0 Debian distribution file name is sb-8.1.0.0-linux-5-x86_64-deb.tar.gz.

Update PTF content for z/OS maintenance deliveries

This release provides significant changes in the way Universal Agent maintenance releases for z/OS are prepared.

These changes were originally introduced in the Universal Agent 7.7, 7.8, 7.9, and 8.0 May 2026 maintenance releases as D-14348 and D-14399. Previous maintenance deliveries for some of those versions may have still provided partial PTF packages. The 8.1 release will be the first one that no longer provides partial PTF deliveries for all of its maintenance releases.

Moving forward, all components subject to change after an initial .0 release will be provided in each maintenance delivery. This includes:

  • MVS and USS load modules
  • Universal Agent component message catalogs (i.e., those members in the &HLQ..UNV.SUNVNLS PDS)
  • Sample configuration files, installed to &HLQ..UNV.SUNVSAMP

This change ensures that any 3pp vendor library updates -- particularly those that remediate CVEs -- are always available for any component that uses that library.

This change means that cumulative PTF packages will be larger than they were in older Agent maintenance releases. This larger PTF delivery requires a change to an existing installation dataset and a change to a JCL procedure used during Universal Agent installs and upgrades. A new install job is provided in the PTF distribution to deliver both of these changes. A new job will also need to be run before the UNVMTRCV job is run, which receives the PTFs.

info

Please read the updated instructions for installing PTF maintenance releases in the z/OS Installation - Cumulative PTF Maintenance page before installing subsequent maintenance provided for this release.

B-23005

Unix
Windows

PYTHON

Update the Universal Agent's Python distribution to Python 3.14.

B-23105

Unix (except Solaris)
Windows

UAGSRV

Adds OpenTelemetry tracing support to Agent File Monitor tasks on Unix and Windows. This changes provides ability to log important events such as stability and size checks, creation/deletion of files, and when the file system is polled.

To add this level of tracing, set the OTEL_ENABLE_TRACING option to debug.

B-23294

Unix
Windows

UPPS

Provides an update to UPPS to retry requests to the Integration Broker when an invalid (non-XML) response is received. This will allow UPPS to detect and handle failures not previously handled by network or application-level retry logic.

As part of this change, the invalid response's content is written to stderr in order to facilitate problem diagnosis.

B-23577

Unix (Linux)

All

Certify Universal Agent for RedHat Enterprise Linux 10 on Intel, AArch64, PPC, and IBM Z (z/Linux, s390x).

B-24058

Unix Windows

All

Replace the Universal Agent's use of the zlib compression library on Unix and Windows with the contemporary zlib-ng library.

B-24063

Unix
Windows

UAGSRV

Add support for a Profile File option on Universal Agent tasks for Linux and Windows, to help customize the environment in which a task executes.

For Linux/Unix tasks, this feature provides the ability to source a shell script before Universal Agent executes the specified command.

For Windows tasks, this feature allows a text file that contains key=value pairs or a batch script to be evaluated prior to command execution.

info

This change requires Universal Controller item B-24064, delivered with the Universal Controller 8.1.0.0 release.

B-24214

All

UAGSRV

Provides a new SERVICE_TIMEOUT configuration option for the Universal Agent Server. When this option is set, the connection between the Agent and the OMS Server will no longer be recycled simply due to inactivity. If the Agent and Controller can successfully exchange a message, the connection will be kept as-is. The connection will continue to be recycled when a real network disruption has occurred and the connection needs to be recovered.

info

This change requires Universal Controller item B-24215, delivered with the Universal Controller 8.1.0.0 release.

B-24447

z/OS

UAGSRV

Provides the ability to re-use a z/OS task instance's JCL from the Agent's JCL_SAVE_LIBRARY location, instead of the task definition's JCL Location or JCL Override Location. This allows an exact copy of the task instance's JCL to be executed at rerun.

info

This change requires Universal Controller item B-24548, delivered with the Universal Controller 8.1.0.0 release.

B-24501

Unix
Windows

UAGSRV

Provides the ability to redirect Windows and Unix/Linux task's stdout and stderr to files specified in the task definition. When these files are specified, output will continue to be available in the task instance's output just as it was prior to this change. In other words, the stdout and stderr files specified in the task will contain copies of the output sent to the Controller's task instance.

If the specified files exist when the task runs, they will be overwritten by default. The ability to append to either file is also provided.

info

This change requires Universal Controller item B-24473, delivered with the Universal Controller 8.1.0.0 release.

D-09560

z/OS

UAGSRV
UAGU84

Ensure that a z/OS task instance's exit code and all of its step condition codes match what is reported by JES.

This corrects a problem observed for some z/OS applications that set exit codes in an unexpected manner, which caused UAG Server to report exit code values greater than the 4095 allowed by z/OS.

info

Note that this fix represents a change in behavior for UAG Server. z/OS tasks with exit and/or step condition code processing whose conditions are authored using the errant values reported by UAG Server may no longer evaluate those conditions as they did before this fix. With this fix, you can now author those conditions with values that reliably match JES values.

This only affects instances where UAG does not report exit or step condition codes that match JES. If UAG reports those values correctly in the z/OS task instance, the behavior will not change.

D-11731

z/OS

UAGSRV

Fixes a problem where a secondary Universal Agent in a sysplex configuration shuts down whenever it receives license information that does not permit secondary agents. This may only be a transient situation, as is the case when the the Universal Controller is upgraded or restarted.

The secondary Agent will now stay active, but paused. The Agent will resume its processing when an updated license that allows secondary z/OS Agents is received.

D-11982

IBM i
Unix
Windows
z/OS

UAGSRV

Provides fixes to address stability issues encountered during frequent Agent shutdowns on systems operating under heavy load.

D-12796
D-12797
D-12798
D-15589

All

All

General reliability, stability, and security fixes to address issues reported by static code analysis.

D-13417

Unix

Install

Delivers changes to usermode and system installation scripts to ensure the following:

  • All possible errors are properly detected,
  • All errors are captured in the install log and written to stderr, and
  • Whenever the script encounters any fatal errors, it exits with a non-zero value.

D-13567

Windows

UAGSRV

Add the FM_MAX_POLL_THREADS option to the Universal Agent Server configuration to improve Windows Agent File Monitor performance.

This new option will allow the number of polling threads used for Windows Agent File Monitor activity to be changed from its default value of 100. This will be particularly helpful in situations where a large number of Agent File Monitor tasks are running alongside each other on a Windows Agent.

D-13645

Windows

Install

Fixes a problem in the Windows system install that prevented updates to the UAG Server's AGENT_CLUSTERS configuration option. Prior to this fix, the installation's AC_AGENT_CLUSTERS command line parameter was ignored during an upgrade. The parameter is now honored and the UAG Server configuration is correctly updated.

D-13712

Unix

UAGSRV

Ensures that the "To Size" parameter is honored on Unix Agents for a "Change" Agent File Monitor task.

D-13713

Unix Windows

UAGSRV

Ensures that an Agent File Monitor ends with a Start Failure when invalid credentials are provided.

D-13716

Unix Windows

UAGSRV

For "Change" and "Exists" Agent File Monitor tasks, ensures the status reported when the file does not exist is consistent for Unix and Windows Agents.

D-13924

Windows

UAGSRV

Fixed an issue on Windows where the Agent File Monitor would immediately fail with Start Failure even when FM_FAULT_TOLERANT option was set to yes.

The monitor now correctly retries authentication for transient OS errors while still failing immediately for invalid credentials.

D-13991

Unix
IBM i

UAGSRV

Fix issue where network alias cluster resolution would fail with system mode agents configured with the OPSAUTOCONF netname.

D-14044

z/OS

UAGSRV
UAGWMDBX

Ensure that z/OS external task monitors correctly identify jobs that fail with message IEF453 as a JCL error and a job failure.

This fix also includes handling for WTO messages that are prefixed with an asterisk ('*'). Prior to this change, UAG Server was unable to properly detect the IEF453 message.

D-14049

z/OS

UAGSRV

Fixes a problem where a z/OS Monitor may not accurately capture the status of externally tracked jobs when a from-to time scope is set for the task.

info

This fix requires a version of Universal Controller that contains the fix delivered by D-15795.

D-14347

Unix
Windows

UFTP
UPPS

Update the libcURL 3pp vendor library (used for UFTP file transfers and UPPS Web API calls) to address known CVEs.

D-14379

IBM i
Unix
Windows

UAGSRV

Fixes an improper dynamic memory allocation that could occur during termination of a cancelled Universal Extenion task.

D-14478

Unix
Windows

USAP

Allows SAP tasks using SNC certificate authentication to successfully connect to an SAP server, without requiring a username and password.

D-15491

Unix
Windows
z/OS

USAP

Fixes a problem that appears on Windows, but required a change for all platforms.

Specifically, an SAP process chain ID that is prefixed with a forward slash ('/') was improperly handled on Windows. Because Universal Agent components on Windows recognize the forward slash or a hypen ('-') as a command option prefix (e.g., -chainid or /chainid), any command line value that contains a leading slash must be quoted with a preceding space (i.e., -chainid " /ABC/DEF"). This fix causes the leading space to be dropped from the actual chain ID value (i.e., "/ABC/DEF").

D-15507

Windows

UAGSRV

Fixes a performance issue by reducing the number of redundant authentications performed for a Windows Agent File Monitor task.

D-15517

z/OS

UAGSRV

Fixes an issue where a failed job may not allow a restart/rerun of some steps when the following apply:

  • The step creates a new generation of a GDG dataset
  • UAG Server incorrectly identifies that dataset as an input temporary dataset

D-15560

Unix Windows

OMSSRV

Prevent duplicate messages when OMS replication is enabled and a node switchover is initiated during a snapshot application.

D-15681

Windows

UAGSRV

Ensure the ops_trigger_file_name variable contains the actual file name for a Windows Agent File Monitor task that uses a '?' wild card in the file pattern.

D-15725

Unix
Windows
z/OS

UFTP

Fixes a crash in the Universal FTP Client (UFTP) that causes Remote File Monitor tasks connecting to SFTP servers on Windows to report a Start Failure.

D-15750

Unix
Windows

PYTHON
UEXT

Update the following "external" Python modules:

  • cryptography
  • pyasn1
  • requests

These external modules -- and their dependencies -- are provided by the Agent's Python distribution. A subset of these modules is installed to the ./universal/uagsrv/uext directory to support the Universal Agent's OpenTelemetry integration.

D-15766

Windows

UAGSRV

Removes duplicate environment variable entries from a process' environment when a Windows task defines an environment variable that is already present in a credentialed user's profile. The environment variable defined in the task will be the one used.

D-15820

z/OS

Install

Restore LIBRFC to the z/OS package to resolve a UECTLR start-up failure. This module was prematurely removed from the Universal Agent 8.0.0.0 z/OS package.

D-15841

Unix
Windows
z/OS

UDM
UDMSRV

Improve memory management and reduce overhead that could cause UDM to consume all available system memory when transferring very large files.

D-15858

Unix
Windows

UAGSRV

Fixes an issue where Agent File Monitor tasks could cause a UAG Server crash when:

  • The File Monitor task has a type of CHANGE or DELETE, and
  • The file path specified in the File Monitor task contains a wildcard

D-15886

z/OS

UAGCMDZ

Fixed ABEND306-44 on z/OS when UAGCMDZ is invoked with EXEC parameters longer than 100 characters.

D-15915

z/OS

UECLOAD

Prevents an 0C4 ABEND during an EXPORT when Universal Event Subsystem records containing a % character are encountered and the command output is written to STDOUT.

D-15936

Windows

UAGSRV

Fixes a performance issue for Windows Agent File Monitor tasks that monitor directories containing several thousand files.

A new configuration option, FM_MAX_ALERTS_PER_TICK, is provided to manage OMS message delivery rates to prevent flooding.

D-16020

All

All

Update the OpenSSL 3pp vendor library to remediate Critical- and High-severity CVEs.

Virtually all Universal Agent components use OpenSSL for cryptographic functions. Not all components have user-facing visibility, but for practical purposes, a change to OpenSSL is a change to all Universal Agent components.

D-16032

Windows

UAGSRV

Fixes an issue where the UBrokerService account attempts to access a UNC path specified in an Agent File Monitor task before user credentials are applied, causing repeated failed authentication events.

D-16033
D-16475

Windows

UAGSRV

Fixes an issue on Windows agents where Unicode characters were improperly handled during execution of the following:

  • A Windows task executed from Universal Controller, or
  • A Universal Task that executes PowerShell (.ps1) scripts

The improper handling was visible in resolved environment variables and task output.

info

This item also includes proper handling for PowerShell scripts that start with a param() block. D-16033 was previously delivered as part of the Universl Agent maintenance releases for August 2026. That delivery introduced an issue where scripts starting with a param() block failed to execute. That fix will be provided by D-16475 in an upcoming maintenance release. The UA 8.1.0.0 delivery contains the complete fix for the issue originally reported by D-16033.

D-16060

Unix
Windows

UPPS

Fixes an issue where improper SSL configuration caused PeopleSoft tasks to fail during retrieval of the process' report.

D-16353

Unix
Windows
z/OS

UDM
UDMSRV

Ensures that a UDM open command is correctly parsed when it contains the "sni" and "comment" keywords in the same statement.

D-16375

z/OS

UAGSRV

Fixes a problem where a z/OS Agent that is configured a primary agent in Sysplex configuration could fail following a failover recovery. For example, if an Agent that normally operates as the primary agent was brought down or demoted to a secondary agent, that Agent could encounter an S430 ABEND upon restart or during return to its role as primary agent.

D-16443

IBM i
Unix
Windows
z/OS

UAGSRV

Fixes a problem where the UAG Server could crash following a restart, particularly while trying to recover processing of several thousand tasks.

D-16444

Unix

UBROKER

Replaces the egrep command in the ubrokerd script with grep, to eliminate a warning about egrep obsolesence in newer Linux distributions.

D-16526

z/OS

Install

Provides the following changes to jobs used to install PTF maintanenance for Universal Agent:

  • UNVMTPRE: increases the allocation for the backup SMPPTS dataset, which is created prior to reallocating the production SMPPTS dataset.
  • UNVMTRCV: compresses the SMPPTS PDS before receiving PTFs into it
  • UNVMTACC: compresses the SMPPTS PDS after accepting PTFs delivered for maintenance

The steps in UNVMTRCV and UNVMTACC to compress the SMPPTS PDS were added to fix any fragmentation that might occur following multiple maintenance release installs. Over time, the repeated PTF additions and deletions could cause that dataset to become fragmented, reducing its usable space. Compressing the dataset recovers that "lost" space.
